“Strelitzia Reginae” (Bird of Paradise) block print by Lili Arnold Studios.

Here’s how it done (so much more details on Lili Arnold Studios page!)...

Lili starts with drawing the image onto a ReadyCut rubber block. Then she carves the outline using Flexcut Carving Tools palm tools. The pieces are cut to create the ‘jigsaw’ puzzle using Excel Blades.

Soft rubber brayers are used to roll the water based block printing ink onto the block.

Lili Arnold Studios uses Stonehenge Natural for the subtle texture, warm hue, and ability to take ink.

A etching press is used for the pressing/transferring/burnishing.

This handcut cookie is inspired by @gucci dionysus and was made back in April 2020 for a custom set. Figured I’d share it now since I’m still on baking vacay! I continue to be so impressed with the quality of your blades! I completed my latest papercut art so fewer blades. Yours stay sharp longer and the tips can withstand the torque I apply on them as I twist the blade for the tiniest of curve cuts. Yeah, Excel!!!

This is an emotional post for me. I was sketching these flowers on a rather despondent evening as a way to distract myself from all that was happening around me....an attempt to control something at a time when everything feels so random and so out-of-control. I happened to share it with Bindu Suri in a text message and she said, "I want this!" Well, "You got this" was my response and she got a stamp made out of it :)

To know that these blooms can now bring joy to so many other people just warms my heart. I did sketch it with the originial sentiment of "Let Your Light Shine" but the floral border is so versatile that you could use it with just about any sentiment you want.

I used Faber-Castell #polychromospencils to color this in, fussy cut it with my Excel Blades fingertip craft knife and then attached a pre-printed glimmer foil sentiment behind it. I then adhered it to a card panel I had colored with Tim Holtz / Ranger Ink Stormy Sky and Tumbled Glass distress inks accented with a simple border made with Sakura of America white glaze pen.

You guys should do a single page chart of your blade styles, it would be a very nice reference.

Several weeks ago I bout a pinvise. The mandrel that holds the drill bit is off center and the bit "wobbbles" creating a poorly drilled hole. I contacted the company and was told I would recieve a new one in the mail. that was approximately three weeks ago. I called the company and was tild it was sent in the mail, but I never received it. I waited a week and a half. Never got the second one that was supposedly sent. I was then told by the company another one would be sent priority mail. That was over a week ago. Is this some kind of joke? I was sold a tool that wasn't made correctly, then I was told on two seperate phone calls, I would receive a replacement in the mail, When, if ever, am I going to receive the replacement tool I was promised?

Sometimes I cut up my Gelli Arts - Gel Printing Plate prints to make cards like these. Swipe all the way to the end so you can see the entire print I made with Tim Holtz / Ranger Ink distress inks and a flower stencil for #gellinktober.

I paired this one with a hand stitched sentiment from Concord & 9th ... still teaching my little one a variety of different stitches. She’s really taken to it and I have a feeling we may be moving on to crocheting and knitting, soon! I’m continuing to practice my cutting skills with Excel Blades finger blade as well...practice makes better, right?

It’s again a simple but different-looking mixed-media card. What do you think of combining these two art forms together?

To start you will need a sharp blade to cut the foam, choose a blade that is appropriate for the thickness and density of the foam you are using.

Objects like a viking mace can also be made using foam sheets by gluing them together in layers, and once dry, carving into the desired shape with carving tools or electric sanding tools.

like the spoon tip stylus is great for creating impressions and indents in foam or soft plastic to create simple effects like battle dings or ornate designs like scroll-work or heraldry.

Practice embossing on foam scraps to get the feel for the foam and each tool or embossing tip. Depending on the density of the foam, some will require more pressure than others.

DYI art doesn’t have to be hard or take long. We made this one in under an hour!

First, we drew the half circle design, a repeat of three columns and three rows.

Then using the K7 handle and the Large V Gouge, we removed the “negative” space to reveal the motif.

Next we stamped, over and over, until the whole area was covered. 😜

We used white ink on black paper.

Lastly, we framed it! Done!
